How much does it cost to train as a tiney childminder?

tiney ask for a commitment of £200 as a sign that you’re serious about training as a childminder. This fee is 50% off for all candidates that join their Summer 2021 Training Programme. This is only available for a limited amount of time.

How much money will you earn?

As a tiney home leader, how much you earn depends on how many children you want to take on, what hours you work and what you set as your hourly rate.

If you’re ambitious and have the right entrepreneurial spirit, you can make this into a well-paid career. Taking on three children full-time (i.e. for 40 hours a week) could see you earning more than £50,000 per year.

Is my house right to be a tiney home nursery?

There are a few basic requirements but with some good planning and a bit of imagination, you can turn your space into a fantastic tiney home.

As a registered childminder, you must meet the following indoor space requirements:
Children under 2 years: 3.5 m2 per child
2 year olds: 2.5 m2 per child
Children aged 2 to 5 years: 2.3 m2 per child

How much will I be working?

When you become a tiney childminder your goal is to build a long-term, sustainable career you love that fits in with your lifestyle, but what does this look like in terms of hours?

For most of tiney homes, the minimum goal they aim for after the first two months is to be delivering around 60 hours of childcare per week.

Don’t panic - this doesn’t mean you’re working a 60 hour week! It could be looking after two children full-time for three days, or three children full-time for two days, or even offering four hours of wraparound care for three school children, five days a week.

What are the requirements for opening a tiney home nursery?

You are over 21 years old.
You do not live in shared or emergency accommodation.
Your home is a no-smoking environment (this includes all types of smoking products).
You have fewer than 3 children under the age of 5 (your own children count towards the childminder ratios).
You have never had your own children taken in to care by social services.
Your home meets the space requirements laid out above.
You or any members of your household over the age of 16 do not have criminal convictions or charges.
You and anyone who lives or works on the premises where you will be childminding, who are over the age of 16, consent to completing an Enhanced DBS check.
